Sensei, Indishe Senanayake began studying Martial
Arts at his early age. He joined the Okinawa Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate Society in his
school, Ananda College, Colombo a very leading Buddhist School in Sri Lanka. He worked
as the secretary, the president and the assistant instructor of his school Karate
Society. He organized many demonstrations and other work in his Society to develop
Indishe Sensei received his Shodan in 1998. He was also awarded at the Colors Nite 2000
of Ananda College Colombo for his performance in Karate
At that time he began practicing Shoko Ryu Renbukai Karate and received his
Shodan in 2000.
He was appointed as the Representative in Sri Lanka for Okinawa Shorin Ryu
Karate Do Kyudokan Association in 2002 and received Nidan from Hanshi Minoru Higa in Kyudokan
and from Soke, Dan Hausel in Seiyo Shorin Ryu.
Sensei, Indishe is affiliated with many international Martial Arts Federations, and holds
representation in Sri Lanka.
Sensei Indishe is the sole participant from Sri Lanka in the 2003 Okinawa
Karate Do Kobudo World Tournament, which was held in Okinawa, Japan in August 2003.
In this visit to Okinawa he improved his techniques under the guidance of Hanshi,
Minoru Higa and Technical Director, Hanshi Oscar Higa at the Kyudokan Hombu Dojo
in Naha, Okinawa.
Sensei Indishe also underwent a special Kobudo (Traditional Okinawan Weaponry)
training in Gushikawa City, Okinawa under the well-known Kobudo Grand Master,
Hanshi Kotaro Iha (9th Dan), founder of the Ryu Kyu Kobudo Ryu Kon Kai Association.
Sensei Indishe who is in the prestigious list of very few Sri Lankan Karate
teachers who has trained in Okinawa, 'the Mecca of Karate', participated in demonstrations,
which were held parallel to the 2003 World Tournament and in seminars conducted
by old Grand Masters, who were named as the Living Cultural Treasures by the Okinawa Ken
Government. Sensei, Indishe attended the seminars of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato
(10th Dan-Shorinkan) and Hanshi Katsuya Miyahira (10th Dan-Shidokan).
Indishe was promoted to Sandan (3rd Dan) in Shorin-Ryu Kyudokan Karate-do by Grand Master Minoru Higa in 2006. He was promoted to
Yondan (4th Dan) in Seiyo No Shorin Ryu karate Kobudo Kai, USA by Soke, Dan Hausel.
He was appointed as the Sri Lanka Representative of International Chen Style Tai Chi Chuan Man Lian Club by Shifu Liu Yong
in 2006, and trained tai chi under Master Liu Yong.
Sensei Indishe has conducted many training camps for foreign students at the request
of foreign Martial Art Instructors in his Sri Lankan Hombu Dojo in Moratuwa and abroad.
Also he has performed Okinawa Karate and Kobudo in many stages on many occasions with
his students and learned and taught Karatedo in many countries.
Indishe Sensei has organized many Martial Arts Seminars in Sri Lanka, conducted by leading
Masters in the world.
In my career of Karate-do, I would like to thank Hanshi Minoru Higa, Hanshi Oscar Higa, members of the Higa Family
Hanshi Kotaro Iha, and many other Okinawan Karate teachers. And also I must be thankful
to Cristian Lugani Sensei (Argentina), Soke Dan Hausel (USA),
Shihan Sakhria Mourad (Tunisia). And I can t forget the
help of Sensei S.L. Pradeep (Shorinkan-Sri Lanka), Shihan Tyronne Mendis
(Shoko Ryu Renbukai-Sri Lanka) and the help of my parents, my friends and my students
says Sensei Indishe Senanayake.
Sensei has written many articles to various local & international magazines on the subject
of Martial Arts. He graduated in B.Sc. Engineering and currently a Postgraduate.
